Weekly Reading Update 6/10 - 6/16/16!

Another week, another update! As always, click the title for more information.

A few weeks ago, I posted about reading Thief of Thieves volume 1: “I Quit” by Robert Kirkman. Well I finally got my hands on Thief of Thieves volume 2: “Help Me” by Kirkman, and Volume 3: Venice by Andy Diggle. I’m still really loving this series. I can’t want to see how he manages to get them out of the next scrape. And even better - I was able to find the next volume! I couldn’t for the longest time, but it turned up on one of my library’s digital platforms. Yay!

I’ve been listening to King Lear by William Shakespeare. Mostly because it counts for my library’s Summer Reading Challenge as an audio book. I figured if I was going to listen to one in a certain format, I might as well go with a classic that I haven’t read in years. And I’m glad I did, because it turns out, I forgot a good portion of the story! There was a whole subplot that had completely slipped my mind. And the audio production was incredibly well done, sound effects and multiple voice actors included!

I'm sure you'll be seeing random or different types of reads from me in the next couple weeks, as I participate in the different challenges as part of the library's summer reading program. And the next book is a prime example of that. I grabbed the book We The Animals by Justin Torres because it fulfilled the "author with the same last initial" spot on the challenge. This was something completely different for me, but I like to try something new now and again. It was good, and I can see why it garnered praise from different critics. But I don't really see myself re-reading it in the future.

I'm almost done with Daring in a Blue Dress by Katie MacAlister, which will be reviewed on Romance Reviews Today. While this is the third book in a series, it works just as well as a stand-alone, considering I didn't read the first two books (yet!), but I still was able to jump into this one just fine. And for long-time fans of Katie MacAlister, I think you'll hear some familiar names in this book. But that's just like her, she loves throwing in little bits like that now and again.

And last, but certainly not least, I read the newest Rick Riordan book, The Hidden Oracle! It's the first in the Trials of Apollo series, and let me tell you, I am absolutely desperate for the next book. I can't believe I have to wait until this time next year! Zeus is punishing Apollo by turning him mortal and making him sixteen again - and even worse, with acne! Apollo maintains none of his immortal powers, though he still excels at music. Thank goodness I still have the first Magnus Chase book to read, so that might help tide me over until his next release.

See you next week! And Happy Reading!

Review: CHERRY POPPER by Jade Sinner

Cherry-Popper-Cover-medium

Release Date: June 16th, 2016

Type: Happily Ever After, Can-work-as-a-stand-alone, Series, Book 1, New Adult, Contemporary, 18+, Sexy, I needed a fan

My Review: This is my second book by Jade Sinner, and oh man.. this was just as hot as the first! If you want a short, sexy, fogging-up-the-windows read - you need to put this author on your wishlist. This book is not a case of insta-love, but the relationship sure does move fast, so if you're not a fan of things moving too quickly, maybe this isn't the book for you. It is, however, definitely the book for me. I was amazed that my glasses hadn't fogged up while I was reading "Cherry Popper" - Jade Sinner knows how to write a sex scene that will have me squirming in my seat. This is the perfect example of an author that would have slid under my radar otherwise, and I would have really been missing out.

The story itself is well done, and despite how sex-heavy it was, you can see the genuine feelings between the two main characters. I'm going to assume, since Ben's roommates were mentioned more than a couple times, that they will be the main characters of the next few books - or at least I hope! I also appreciate that the authors threw in an epilogue, showing the couple several years down the road. And for those of you that aren't a fan of babies in your romances, you better start preparing yourself now.

Cover Lovin': In the immortal words of George Takei... Oh, my!

Recommendation: You definitely need to like your stories on the steamy side.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE (4/5) stars! Make those four STEAMY stars. I feel a little scandalized! But I loved every second of it.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

My best friend’s little sister. That’s all Emma Briggs is to me.

I keep trying to convince myself that statement is true but it’s a lie.

It’s her face I see every time I close my eyes.

It’s her touch I yearn to feel.

It’s her lips I long to kiss.

It’s her cherry I want to pop.

We were separated by time and distance, but now she’s back in my life. And everything has changed.

Every. Thing.

She’s no longer that kid tagging along behind me. The special bond I’ve shared with her—for as long as I can remember—has become something so different. Something so forbidden. Something so hot.

Desire is telling me to do it—to pop her cherry. It would be so easy to give in and take her because she'll feel so good.

My best friend’s little sister is all grown up. And I want her.

She. Will. Be. Mine.

The 2016 Reader/Author Get Together! ( #RAGT16 )

So, as long-time readers might remember, I've been going to the Annual Reader/Author Get Together for the past five (or six?) years. It's a great time, with awesome authors, and excellent charity donations. Every year, Lori Foster sells a benefit book, and all the proceeds go to the Animal Adoption Foundation - a no kill animal shelter, and it happens to be where we adopted our sweet little Mattie! And all the proceeds from raffle tickets go to One Way Farm, a wonderful place that helps kids from rough backgrounds learn to accept help and love, sparing them the abuse most of them have suffered in their lives. So of course, I love to go every year and support these great causes, plus just have a wonderful time with fellow attendees and find new authors!

Authors and publishers sponsor meals and boardrooms, and provide goodies or games throughout the conference. Most of the time, there were so many places I wanted to be at the same time, that I couldn't choose what to do! My mother and I attended a session where we used pictures and phrases cut out from magazines to make our own book cover - and my Mom won! She got a free book, which made her super excited.

And speaking of free books - we got 8 free books in our goody bags (every paid registrant gets a goody bag!), and then I got another 5 free books courtesy of the amazing authors that sponsored our different meals! I cannot wait to read them all, plus all the books I won in different raffle prizes. On top of the free books, and books I won, I also bought a small stack of books from different authors that were either new to me, or ones I had seen previously and wanted to finally pick up one of their books.

I'm still just so excited about last weekend that I can barely form coherent thoughts! I won six, SIX, raffle baskets - one basket alone had twenty books in it! All the baskets are sitting on my living room floor, lined up like soldiers, waiting for me to dive in. I did go through and look at everything, and I am blown away by how generous all the people that donated are. There's jewelry, signed books, coloring books, water bottles/mugs, even some Vera Bradley purses! There was one basket in particular that I was hoping to win, but you know what? I wouldn't trade these amazing baskets for that one. I'm already gathering some books and items to hopefully donate next year.

I was hoping to have some pictures to show you guys, but I'm afraid this has been a very busy week, so I didn't get the chance to take any. I will get some, I promise!

And speaking of pictures, if you're interested in seeing what I'm reading, or any bookish stuff that catches my eye, Novel Addiction now has an Instragram! I can be found at, as I'm sure you can guess, @noveladdiction.

I will update more when my life is a little less hectic - you know, if that ever happens.

Happy Reading!

  ie-cover
About INK ENDURING The Montgomery Ink series continues with a forbidden love between three friends and a past that they can’t escape. Jake Gallagher knew from the moment he saw Maya that she was the one for him—it had the same breath-taking intensity as when he’d first set eyes on Border. Only life never turns out the way one plans, and now he’s falling for someone else...or at least he thinks he is. Maya Montgomery never should have looked past the friendship she already had. Now that she has, she can’t stop thinking about Jake and what he means to her. When a mysterious stranger from Jake’s past shows up at their door, she’s forced to admit that if she doesn’t take the risk of a lifetime, she’ll regret it for the rest of her days. Border Gentry walked away without a second glance once because of what could happen if he let go, but now he’s back and ready to see what he’s missed. He’s been on the road a long time and has seen things no man should ever see, yet once he rediscovers the broody Jake and meets the inked and fierce Maya, they’re like a balm to his soul and he realizes what path his future should take. It will take more than sizzling chemistry and a heat that never dies for the three of them to overcome their pasts. And when someone from the outside wants to stand in their way, it’s not only their hearts on the line…but also their lives.

About Carrie Ann Ryan

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born. Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.

Review: A BUCKHORN BACHELOR by Lori Foster

Release Date: June 1st, 2016

Type: Novella, Series, Contemporary Romance, This Chick Is A Librarian Like Me!

About the Book: Adam Sommerville always thought he had it all—great family in a close-knit community, worthwhile job as a high school gym teacher, and no shortage of women eager to be on his arm. But it seems his luck has suddenly run out. Because Buckhorn’s most renowned bachelor has decided it’s time to settle down—and the one woman he wants just put him firmly in the friend zone.

Hiding her true feelings from Adam has been a full-time job for the past five years, but librarian Isabella Presley is determined not to be the latest heart he breaks. The best way to get over her attraction is to find someone else to date—even if it means asking Adam for flirting tips to help her land the perfect guy. But when Adam sets out to convince her the perfect guy is him, will she face her fears for a chance at forever? [Description from Goodreads.com]

My Review: I've said it before and I will say it again - Lori Foster is one of my all-time favorite go-tos for a seriously good contemporary romance. If you saw my review of Don't Tempt Me last week, you'll know I think she's the master of the full length romance. But A Buckhorn Bachelor just proves that she also rocks the novella. This is actually my first Buckhorn book, even though I know this is one of her more popular series. And man, I didn't realize how much I was missing until now!

This book is just further proof that Lori Foster can write down-to-earth, genuine characters. I truly believe I could meet someone just like Isabella and Adam. And frankly, I would 100% love to meet someone like Adam. With all the billionaires and rock star romances out there, there's something so comfy and relaxing about a gym teacher and a librarian. Despite the short length of this book (I estimate it to be around 90 pages or so), you can see the characters grow, not only on their own, but as a couple. Really, the only thing keeping this from being a five star perfect read is the cousin. I know she meant well, but I've never wanted to whack a character on the nose with a rolled up newspaper more than in this book.

Cover Lovin': Yummy!

Recommendation: While I own a couple Buckhorn books, this is actually the first I've ever read! So take it from me, this works just fine as a stand alone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! I didn't want to put it down.

Make sure to get your copy of A Buckhorn Bachelor from Amazon today!

Happy Reading!
