Review: RIGHT GIRL, WRONG ALPHA by DJ Bryce!

My Review: I've been in a major shifter romance mood, so this book really hit the spot for me. If I focus just on the romance itself, this book is fantastic - exactly what I wanted and needed. But it's the rest of the plot I had problems with. The author decided to add a suspenseful edge to the story - a rival pack that is causing problems. But because this book is so short, that subplot wasn't given enough depth to make it anything more than a nuisance. A lot could have been done with it, I could see the potential for a great story there, but.. it just didn't get the attention it deserved.

But the romance between Natasha and Logan was what sold me on this book. I like how this author did the whole "destined mate" thing - how they know, what it feels like, etc. It was classic, yet original enough. And I was interested enough in the couple from book one to read more in the future - and I definitely want to try the next book in the series, since that sounds like it will be a dramatic, but amazing, story. Despite the mistaken suspenseful plot, the romance itself is worth a read, and why I would recommend this to readers that want a good, shorter shifter story.

Cover Lovin': I'm torn about the cover - It's very pretty, but I'm afraid it's too monochromatic.

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary! You can jump right in.

Final Rating: THREE out of FIVE stars (3/5)!! This was a fun, fast read. I enjoyed the book, I just think it was too fast to have any real depth.

Happy Reading!

Release Day: DEAR BRIDGET, I WANT YOU by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland!

AVAILABLE NOW

Amazon | iBooks | B&N | Kobo | Google Play | Amazon paperback

Dear Bridget,

I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face.

So, here goes.

We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England.

But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.

I want you.

The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke.

So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime.

No questions asked.

Think about it.

Or don’t.

Whatever you choose.

It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway.

--Simon

Review: TRIPPED OUT by Lorelei James!

My Review: I love Lorelei James. Every time I think I get a handle on her style, she throws something different and unique at me, and I fall in love all over again, in a different way. And this is a perfect example. Tripped Out is both so different and so similar to her previous works. It's at once both very technical, and very laid back. It's sweet, but hot. A study in contradictions, as it were.

I'll admit to not reading the Blacktop Cowboys series as much as her others. I drooled over the McKay's and swooned over the Lunds, but the Blacktop Cowboys didn't call to me as much. But what I do like is that I can pick one at random, and can get right into the story with no problem. And Tripped Out is no exception. Once again, the 1001 Dark Nights novellas have produced a real winner, and Lorelei James proves her supreme awesomeness!

Cover Lovin': Another great 1001 Dark Nights cover.

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! Another awesome Lorelei James book!

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Lorelei James, comes TRIPPED OUT, a new novella in her Blacktop Cowboys Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

About TRIPPED OUT:

Where there’s smoke…

Stirling Gradsky abandoned the corporate rat race for a more laidback lifestyle. So it’s ironic she’s stuck working with a hard-bodied, know-it-all scientist who treats her like a stoner instead of a stone cold business woman capable of running a large scale cannabis operation. Dr. Hot and Tattooed with the big…brain needs to stop sampling their product; he’s under the half-baked idea that he’s the boss.

Dr. Liam Argent’s doctorate isn’t in chemistry, but from the moment he meets his sexy new coworker, there’s enough heat between them to short out all the lights in the grow house. First item on his agenda? Clearing up the sassy, blunt blonde’s hazy notion that she’s in charge.

Sparks fly as their attraction blazes. But can they weed out their differences without getting burned?

About Lorelei James:
Lorelei James is the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of contemporary erotic western romances set in the modern day Wild West and also contemporary erotic romances. Lorelei’s books have been nominated for and won the Romantic Times Reviewer’s choice Award, as well as the CAPA Award. Lorelei lives in western South Dakota with her family…and a whole closet full of cow girl boots. From Lorelei: “Why do I have a particular fondness for all things western? Well, I’m a fourth generation South Dakotan, living in the Black Hills, which is chock-full of interesting characters, including cowboys, Indians, ranchers, and bikers. The geographical diversity of the surrounding area showcases mountains, plains, and badlands. Living in and writing about rural settings gives me a unique perspective, especially since I’m not writing historical westerns. Through my fictional world, I can show the ideals and the cowboy way of life are still very much alive.”

Review: BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE by Juliette Poe!

My Review: So cute! I knew I would love this considering Juliette Poe is the pseudonym of Sawyer Bennett, who is an author I greatly enjoy. This book was just... adorable. I smiled my way through several scenes, and I didn't want to put it down. In fact, it's because of this book that I was almost late to my evening rehearsal. But I'd rather rush getting ready than miss out on more reading time - especially when the book is as good as this one!

I can't believe, despite following this author on social media, that I didn't realize she had another series under this name. And I was seriously missing out. I love the small town feel of this book. The secondary characters add dimension to the story. Though I would have kept reading anyways because I may be more than a little in love with Jake.

Cover Lovin': So sweet looking!

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! Loved it! I will be checking out the previous books ASAP!

Happy Reading!

Review: DIRTY LITTLE SECRET by Kendall Ryan!

My Review: First off, let me just say... AH that ending! Why would you do that to me, Kendall?! I faithfully follow your releases and you burn me with such a cliffhanger?! But even with this sudden but inevitable betrayal, I will still follow Kendall Ryan into the depths of Hades because I love her books. And Dirty Little Secret is another winner. I was intrigued by the short prologue, and it just got that much more addicting from there. I didn't want to put this down. It was tough returning to work after my lunch break, let me tell you.

There was something almost familiar about this book. I don't think it was anything specific, just the general tone of the story. But that just added to how hard it was for me to stop reading. If work hadn't gotten in the way, this would have been a one sitting read. Gavin is messed up, but I still love him. And Emma! How could I not love a librarian?

Cover Lovin': Simplistic, but eye-catching.

Recommendation: Book one, no prior knowledge necessary. Cliffhanger, so be prepared to immediately pre-order book 2!

Final Rating: FOUR AND A HALF out of FIVE stars (4.5/5)!! A near perfect read. I can't wait for the next book!!!

The start to a sexy new series from New York Times bestselling author, Kendall Ryan... She’s much too innocent for me, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting the sweet, young librarian. I’m dominating and possessive, and my control streak runs a mile wide.   The way she looks at me—like I’m one of the heroes in the books she loves, like I’m broken, and she wants to be the one to piece me back together—it only complicates things further. I’m nobody’s hero.   But there’s no denying my tragic past reads like one of her favorite literary classics. It’s raw. Visceral. Captivating. And together, we’re a perfect mess. How am I expected to resist when the sexual sparks zap between us and set me on fire? The need to control, and claim her force my walls to come tumbling down, but when she learns my dirty little secret, will my world come crashing down with it?   The story continues in Dirty Little Promise, releasing October 9th.

Release Day: STRIPPING HER DEFENSES by Amanda Adams!

Today we have the release day blitz for Stripping Her Defenses by Amanda Adams! Check it out and grab your copy today!

My Review: Two romance tropes I love in one book! The sibling's best friend/best friends sibling storyline, AND the second chance romance. And I do like the whole "breaking up with you for your own good" thing, even though if that happened to me in real life, I'd be so angry. Daniel didn't even get to the breaking up point - he pushed her away after one kiss. Because he knew she was something amazing and special, and quite possibly the one. Excuse me while I swoon, because man oh man, that is romantic as heck.

This was a very good read. I didn't want to put it down. I will admit to being annoyed in the beginning because we get hints of the secrets Daniel is dealing with, but nothing for sure and concrete. I wanted to know what was going on! But I got so into the plot that pretty soon, the book felt seamless. I can't wait for more!

Cover Lovin': This cover looks sweeter than the book itself. Considering some of the subject matter, I expected a darker cover.

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! So good - I couldn't put it down!

Happy Reading!

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Chloe, you’re showing him a house. This is all business. Stop acting like this is some kind of date,” I mutter to myself, attempting to dial down the intensity and back away from the ledge. Maybe if I say it out loud enough times, I’ll believe it. Maybe, if I can forget the heat of that kiss, I’ll stop wanting what I can’t have. And Daniel definitely ranks high on my list of things I can’t have. I feel dangerously close to falling and giving in to childhood impulses. I’m an adult now. I’d been a stupid nineteen-year-old kid when I made that pass at Daniel. I’d been a stupid kid who thought true love conquered all. And I knew I loved him and that he would love me. I’d watched all the right movies and read all the right books. The beautiful young princess always won the prince in the end, and then they lived happily-ever-after. That was the big lie. In real life, the prince turned her down flat and disappeared on the other side of the world, her mom got sick, died of cancer, and left the princess with a pile of bills and a life insurance policy that didn’t even come close to covering the costs of settling the estate. In real life, the princess had to work three minimum-wage jobs to pay for a realtor’s license and had hustled like the devil every day since. No, I’m not that naïve little girl anymore. I’d seen too much of life to go back to that kind of thinking. Which meant I had to get over the nervous anticipation of seeing Daniel again. Today would be pure business and I am a confident, independent woman now. That kiss meant nothing to me, and neither did his rejection. Nope. Not a thing. I can act like it never happened. I’d kissed plenty of men since then. Loads. At least…I had to think hard for a minute…at least three. That was more than enough to know that Daniel isn’t the only guy on the planet. There are plenty of other… massive shoulders supporting muscular necks that smell of wonderful cologne… in the sea; I just haven’t reeled in the right one. But I will. I’m not afraid to love again and I don’t regret a moment of time spent with my mother before she passed. I cherish my memories, grateful that I had love in my life at all. And when I do meet someone new, I will forget all about my childhood crush on Daniel. I purse my lips, calm my breathing and focus on a circle of fog forming on the glass window. I am so over my best friend’s older brother. Over. Done. Not even a little nervous to see him again. He has to be old and fat and ugly now. Yep. Losing his hair, scarred up from the war like in one of those sci-fi movies. Grotesque and completely unattractive. Has. To. Be. I turn to make one last circle around the house, making sure everything is in place for the showing before Mr. Ugly arrives. Most of the owners’ furniture is in storage. A couple of nice magazines decorate the coffee table. I brought in flowers after the painters finished changing the pale blue and green walls to neutral beige that I knew would help the place sell. All the family photos are hidden in a drawer upstairs and a table setting straight out of “Realtors R Us” highlights the dining room. Martha Stewart herself would be proud of the crystal and the silver and the perfectly folded napkins in elegant rings next to the impossibly white china. I have no doubt he will notice none of it or tell it to go find some candleholder its own age. When Sara told me that Daniel was back in town, and he wanted to buy a house, it felt like fate. It would be an opportunity to prove that I had grown up and moved on, that he meant nothing more to me than what I would feel for any childhood friend, that I could be completely immune to his charm. With Daniel, this is an opportunity to feel like I am the one in charge for the first time in our lives. I am ready for that. More than I’d like to admit. I served my time being the tag-along, annoying younger sibling’s best friend. No more. I start to straighten the floral arrangement on the dining room table for the hundredth time but stop my obsessive craziness and smack a daisy in frustration. “I doubt he cares about you stupid flowers,” I tell them, sighing at my ridiculous behavior. And the poor daisy lilts over. I think I broke its poor neck—or its heart—because I yelled at it. As I attempt to reconcile with the wronged and innocent flower I hear the deep rumble of an engine approaching outside. Marching to the front door, I open it to greet him--as I do all of my clients—and watch with my heart in my throat as Daniel rides up on his motorcycle. After parking it, he takes off his helmet, his dark hair gleams in the bright, Texas sunshine. A leather jacket hugs his muscular arms and shoulders while tight denim shows that nothing about him has diminished since I’d last seen him. In fact, I realize just how much of a boy he’d been at twenty-two. Now he is all man, from the slight lines at the corners of his mouth to the way he moves. Everything about him screams confident, virile male in his prime. Damn it. So much Mr. Ugly. This indifference thing might be harder than I thought.         About the Author: Amanda Adams writes super-sexy, new adult and contemporary romance. Cover Reveal: THE WILDE TOUCH by Stoni Alexander!

Cover Reveal & Pre-Order Tour for
THE WILDE TOUCH by Stoni Alexander

~ Book Description ~

Looks can be deceiving…
Emmy-winning journalist Alexandra Reed returns to the DC area with two goals in mind—care for her ailing mom and steer clear of devastatingly handsome Crockett Wilde. But the man who stole her heart, then broke it, is impossible to avoid. As her life spins out of control, she finds pleasure in her secret escape—a sex-play club. And that’s where things really heat up…

Tech CEO Crockett Wilde is at the top of his game, but beneath his calm surface lies a raging volcano. When he finds the monster who abducted his sister, he’ll unleash a decade of pain. The one person who can subdue his demons—beautiful, headstrong Alexandra—wants nothing to do with him. Yet, he’s determined to set the record straight and not let the love of his life get away.

As Alexandra follows a trail of suspicious incidents at the kink club, Crockett seizes the opportunity to prove he’s not the bad guy she believes him to be. Together they unmask an underworld of evil. But it's the moment she goes missing that changes their lives in unimaginable ways.

~ Excerpt ~

As Colton set the champagne on the island, Crockett said hello to the kitchen staff. Movement on the screened porch caught his eye. Alexandra and Colton’s fiancée rose from the sofa and hugged. Though the women had been sitting in the dark, he recognized Alex right away.
   And he couldn’t look away.
“How long has it been since you’ve seen Alexandra?” Colton asked.
“Eleven years. She’d just graduated high school.”
The two women scooted inside. “Too cold.” Brigit’s teeth chattered and Colton pulled her close.
Crockett had liked Brigit immediately. Petite, blonde and crazy smart, she was Colton’s equal in every way that mattered. But more than that, she made him happy.
Alexandra’s eyes grew wide. “Crockett.” Her blue lips quivered.
Blood pounded through his veins. She’s gorgeous. Large, caramel eyes blinked up at him. Dark brown hair flowed over her bare shoulders. Her elegant red holiday dress showed off her womanly curves, but her breathtaking beauty captured his heart.
“Hello, Goth Girl.” As they stared into each other’s eyes, he felt like he’d come home. And eleven long years compressed into mere minutes. He remembered how her eyes sparkled when she smiled at him, or that her sweet kisses could soothe his karate injuries. And how she’d undo him with her passion.
He smiled. Her gaze slid from his eyes to his mouth, then back into his eyes. The corners of her lips lifted. Then, a flash of anger shadowed her pretty face.
She flicked her head and squared her shoulders. Alexandra Mitus in defense mode. His heart tightened. That rigid posture had been his last image of her. Goddammit. She’s still pissed at me.
“Thanks for talking, Brigit,” she said, her attention still fastened on Crockett. “Excuse me, I’m going to check on Mom.” She walked away. Before vanishing around the corner, she glanced back at him.
   He grinned. Not that pissed.
***
Safely out of view, Alexandra heaved in a shaky breath while trying to appear nonchalant. But she was on fire. Crockett Wilde had shorted her mind. She hated the power he had over her. Always had. My god, he’s gorgeous.
From the moment she’d laid eyes on him, at fourteen, he’d rocked her world. The summer after she’d graduated high school, they’d fallen crazy in love, or so she’d thought.
Seeing him now had awakened the best memories and the worst feelings. Clearly, time had been good to Crockett Wilde. Gangly no more, his massive, sculpted body was eye candy for her lonely soul. She’d always found him handsome, but when he’d pinned her with those baby blues she knew she was in trouble. His chiseled cheekbones and strong jawline made looking away impossible. Like years ago, his undeniably sexy accent wove a ribbon around her heart.
